THE BASICS

What is an Aura?

An Aura is the digital representation of an artist’s identity. It’s made up of all the images and information that has been created by or about them in digital form.

How do you create Auras for artists?

We create the Auras you see on our site by aggregating, analyzing and organizing content and metadata from various on-and-offline sources including social and open platforms (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Wikipedia) and licensed content owners (such as photographers and record labels). The artist can contribute content and information to their Aura as well.

Can any artist have an Aura?

Yes. Any artist can have an Aura on our platform. If you can’t find who you’re looking for, complete our Add New Aura form.

Why do some artists have pink check marks next to their names and some don’t?

A pink check mark denotes an Official Aura that has been claimed by the artist or someone on their team who is authorized to curate on their behalf. If you see a little robot icon to the right of the artist name, the Aura has been automatically generated by our Aurabots and is available to be claimed by the artist.

What is a Curator?

A Curator is the artist or verified artists’ representative (i.e., a manager, digital marketing team or label) that is responsible for managing all aspects of an Aura, including publishing content and editing facts and other info about the artist.

What is a Content Partner?

A Content Partner is a label, photographer, editorial publisher or other professional content owner that has partnered with OpenAura to contribute their artist-related content to our platform.

What is a source?

Each company or individual who we aggregate content from is known as a source. Facebook, Instagram, Getty Images, a record label or photographer are examples of sources you will see in Auras.

What is a particle?

A particle is an individual piece of content (such as an image, bio, or social post) that is associated with an Aura. Curators can add new particles to their Aura directly as well as publish or unpublish particles from other sources.

Is my Aura only viewable on openaura.com or do other websites and apps also have access to it?

In addition to being viewable on openaura.com, all the content and metadata published to your Aura is available to apps and services that use the OpenAura platform. Through a license with OpenAura, developers use a technology called an application programming interface (or API) to access your Aura so they can incorporate your curated images, facts, and other particles into the apps and services they build for fans.

How can I see what apps and services are using my Aura?

All of the apps and services who have access to your Aura are listed on the Channels page in My Account.

How do I make money using OpenAura?

Apps and services using our API for commercial purposes pay OpenAura for access. We share half of that revenue with the artists and Content Partners who participate in our platform. 60% of that revenue share is allocated to artists and you receive your pro-rata share of that based on how many times your Aura was used. Once you claim your Aura, the Curator Revenue Share agreement will be available for review under Reportings and Payments in My Account.
